Among Salzburg's numerous churches, the cathedral is the most important sacred building. With its mighty dome and two towers, it impressively shapes the cityscape.
The cathedral is the heart of Salzburg. There is much to discover here: the baptismal font, the crypt, the art installation "Vanitas" or the reliquary with the bones of Saints Rupert and Virgil. In addition, many stories are hidden behind the seven bells and the three entrance doors. And if you look closely, you can see scribbles in the marble in the entrance that are 370 years old.
The Roman Catholic Franciscan Church is one of the oldest churches in the old city of Salzburg and belongs to the Franciscan monastery. It stands in the space between Franziskanergasse to the south and Sigmund-Haffner-Gasse to the west.
St. Peter's Abbey, also Archabbey of St. Peter in Salzburg, is the oldest existing monastery of the Austrian Benedictine Congregation and in the German-speaking area in general. The monks live according to the Benedictine rule. The entire area is under national monument protection.
