About the artwork

During the spectacular Sail In of Amsterdam 2025, I made this drawing on location, sitting by the water. The impressive tall ships passed by slowly, accompanied by a jumble of small boats and pleasure yachts. The large three-master with the Dutch flag at the center was a magical sight — a moment I had to capture.

What you see is a colorful and dynamic composition, built up in layers of watercolor and colored pencil. The lines are quick and sketchy, but if you look closely, you’ll see that each ship has its own personality.

My goal wasn’t to create an exact representation, but to capture the energy and movement of the day. The work conveys a sense of summer, freedom, and wonder — as if you were there yourself.

This drawing was originally made in A4 format in my sketchbook. The small size forces me to work quickly and make choices: what to leave out, and what to capture with just a few lines?

Thanks to its loose style and vibrant palette, this print fits beautifully in a bright interior or with someone who loves sailing, Amsterdam, or maritime history. It evokes memories of water, wind, and a unique day when the city became the stage for a fleet full of dreams.
