This image features a Shiva Linga , a sacred symbol of the Hindu religion representing the creative energy of the god Shiva. This stone linga rests on a Yoni , a circular base evoking the goddess Shakti, embodying the union of masculine and feminine in Hindu tradition. Located in the grounds of the Indreshwar Mahadev temple in Panauti, this ancient sanctuary is a place of prayer and meditation for the faithful.
The marks of coloured powder, flowers and offerings visible on the stone bear witness to the fervour of the devotees who come here to honour Shiva and ask for blessing and protection. This site, one of the oldest in the Kathmandu Valley, is steeped in history and spirituality, attracting pilgrims and travellers in search of authenticity. In Panauti, a town built at the confluence of three sacred rivers, the presence of such sanctuaries reinforces the mystical and timeless atmosphere of this emblematic place in Nepal.
