If one little bird knows how to pose, it is the robin. They never show themselves first, at dawn. No, they conveniently leave that to the great tits, and as soon as they have spent 15 minutes exploring the area and it seems safe enough, the robin comes flying in.

Stately he or she then stands there as if Napoleon had entered the battlefield after the battle, looking out over his newly acquired territory.

A robin is also extremely territorial, so having another robin there is a guarantee of a fight, provided of course it is a lover, because then there is no problem.

What I found incredibly cool last spring was the territorial behaviour of blackbirds in my garden! There were at least four nests nesting in the laurel and the males worked together to protect the nests.

For instance, I really often saw "patrols" of two blackbirds flying over together. They also had fixed vantage points. In a garden that usually likes the larger birds like magpies and jay, this kept them away throughout the season. Even the barn owl, which always flies over at dusk, stayed away for a while.
Of course, the bats were there. They provide a great spectacle every evening, with at least 40 of them flying together.

What I like about this photo is that a few days before, I had photographed a very large event, with numerous, really nice people.

The photo's were later very well received, and even last week the mailbox flooded with compliments. Very nice!

With that intoxication all week in, it was lovely to lie still and stretched out on the ground a week later and take in nature. The differences are huge, it is true, but that is how I like and see it.
