Ready for take-off! A Mitsubishi F-2B of the JASDF (Japan Air Self Defense Force) is about to take off.
The Mitsubishi F-2 is a multi-role combat aircraft derived from the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon and built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Lockheed Martin for the Japan Air Self Defense Force, with a 60/40 split in production between Japan and the United States.
Thus, the wing area is about 25% larger than the F-16, the fuselage is over 40 centimeters longer, and the tail section is also slightly larger.
The larger wing allows the aircraft to carry more fuel in the wings and has additional suspension points for weapons.
