The heron (Ardeola ralloides) is a bird from the family of herons. The grey heron is a rather small heron, 40 to 49 cm long with a wingspan of 71 to 86 cm. The bird is predominantly yellow-brown when it sits or stands. The neck is grey striped. In the summer plumage adult herons have red legs and ornamental feathers. In winter plumage the legs are yellow-green. When the bird flies up it seems to be predominantly white, because the top of the wings and the tail are white.
