The sparrows (Passeridae) are a family in the order of the songbirds. The family has 49 species.[1] The best known species is undoubtedly the house sparrow. However, there are still a number of species of sparrows that occur in Europe.
Sparrows are brownish birds with a fairly thick beak, an adaptation to eating seeds. This is also the case with some buntings. The different types of sparrows have clear characteristics, which makes them easy to distinguish from each other.
