About the artwork

Princely bridge in a modern look connecting the city of Utrecht to the Papendorp commercial business park.

Cycling between the tethers with the wind in your face, you feel part of a changing world. Above, the clouds drift at great speed alternately threatening and mild. The view from the bridge is calm, and the bridge itself is powerful through its steel splendour. The Dutch skies complement the cables (tethers) that seem to change in their colour along with the daylight. Thus, the bridge is slightly different every day. It gave me the necessary inspiration and solidity for the business appointments I was going to have on the other side of the bridge.

For me, it is the Utrecht version of De Zwaan (Erasmus Bridge) that can be admired from the A2 motorway between Utrecht and Amsterdam.

The original name for the bridge was Papendorpsebrug, but renamed after Prince Claus at the request of residents.

It is a steel cable-stayed bridge designed by architect Ben van Berkel. Ben van Berkel also designed the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam. In 2003, the bridge was opened by Princess Maxima. The bridge is 230 metres long, 92 metres high and 36 metres wide.

The bridge connects the banks of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. This bank connection across the canal is an important link for public transport and cyclists.

The municipality of Utrecht is the manager.
