About ‘Powerful block’ by Mark Leek

I like to go out with my D700 and the macro 105 screwed on, looking for details of larger wholes. In Hoorn harbour, there is a host of possibilities in this regard. Not so long ago, I went to work on the Houten Hoofd - the wooden mooring pier in Hoorn harbour. The skipper of one of the historical boats watched me for a while and then jokingly remarked whether I wouldn't like to put his whole boat on it too. I took this detailed picture of a pulley - in shipping terms a block - in the harbour in May 2012.

By getting a little closer, you can capture beautiful details of ships. Such a block is a great example of how a skipper tries to control the forces of such a ship. Pure power capable of making the skipper do things that would have been impossible without that block. Wonderful!

Mijn naam is Mark Leek. Ik ben in 1968 geboren in Blokker. Van beroep ben ik adjunct-directeur van een speciale basisschool in Hoorn. Daarnaast ben ik voor D66 gemeenteraadslid in Hoorn. In mijn vrije besteed ik graag veel tijd aan fotograferen.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
