Portrait of Clara Alewijn, Dirck Dircksz. van Santvoort, 1644 oil on canvas, h 122cm × w 89.5cm. More object details Clara Alewijn was only nine years old when she was painted. This canvas is the counterpart to the portrait of her brother Martinus. Like him, Clara is depicted as a shepherdess under a tree, surrounded by sheep. In her hand she holds a staff and flowers. The bow and quiver of arrows in the foreground refer to hunting. Her festive fancy dress gives the scene a timeless character.
