A symbol of Strasbourg, the Ponts Couverts comprises three interconnected bridges, alongside several stone towers that once served as defences. The bridges cross tributaries of the River Ill.
The Ponts Couverts is connected to the Petite France neighbourhood on the central island of Grande Île.
The impressive 3 towers originally date from the Middle Ages. The bridges were first built in the 13th century and used to have a wooden cover, hence the name Ponts Couverts ('covered bridges'). Discover one of the few remaining traces of the medieval defensive city.
In the background, Strasbourg's imposing cathedral. For fantastic views of the bridges, visit the nearby Vauban Dam. This panoramic photo was also taken on this observation deck.
