Pletterijkade, The Hague – Skyline, Canal and Modern Architecture by Robert Jan Smit

The Hague likes to show itself from two different angles. On the one hand, there are the historic canals and characteristic streets; on the other, the modern skyline that gives the city a contemporary look. This photograph of the Pletterijkade brings both worlds together in a natural way.
From the quay, the water gently guides the eye towards The Hague’s striking high-rise buildings. The tranquil canal acts as a mirror for the sky, lending the composition depth and balance. The trees along the quay provide a green frame, whilst the classic lamppost and moorings are a reminder of the old town’s character.
The soft daylight emphasises the different textures of brick, water and glass. This creates an atmospheric cityscape in which tranquillity and vibrancy blend effortlessly. It is a place where residents pass by every day, yet which at the same time shows just how versatile The Hague really is.
This photograph is a tribute to the city as it truly is: modern without losing sight of its history. A familiar sight for residents of The Hague and a surprising one for visitors who mainly know the city from the Binnenhof or Scheveningen.
As wall art, this photograph is ideal for a living room, office or meeting room. The calm colours, the strong lines and the characteristic cityscape make it a timeless photograph for lovers of urban architecture, water and Dutch cityscapes.
