One of the two towers of the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. When the building was inaugurated in 1998, it was the tallest building in the world, marking the first time since the Middle Ages that the world's tallest building was not in the Western world. However, the Petronas Twin Towers remain the tallest identical buildings in the world, with the two spires reaching a height of 452 metres. The building has 88 floors. The highest floor in the building is 375 metres high and the roof is 378.6 metres high. The shape of the towers is derived from traditional Islamic forms. For instance, the ground plan of the Petronas Twin Towers is based on the Rub El Hizb, but with additional circular sections to increase the total floor area.
