Palm in the Caribbean Light – Curaçao by Yahya Algehaili

This photograph shows a palm tree in Curaçao, captured from below so that its leaves open widely against a bright blue sky. This upward perspective gives the tree a monumental, almost architectural presence. The long palm fronds stretch in every direction, creating a natural pattern of lines, shadows and subtle variations of green. Between the leaves, small patches of sky and cloud remain visible, adding air and depth to the composition.

The image was photographed on Kodak Portra 400 film with a Nikon F3, and that analogue process gives the photograph much of its character. The colours feel warm and natural: rich greens in the palm leaves, soft blue tones in the sky and golden accents where the sunlight touches the fronds. The gentle grain of the film adds to the calm, timeless atmosphere.

What I like most about this image is its simplicity. It is not a busy beach scene or a postcard-style travel image, but a focused view of something that immediately evokes the Caribbean. For me, the palm tree stands for warmth, calm and outdoor living. As wall art, the photograph brings a tropical and sunlit mood into an interior, making it especially suitable for spaces that feel light, natural and relaxed.
