Ode to 34 is more of a puzzle than a painting. It is a condensed form of cleverly designed information. A trigger for the subconscious and a joy to make.
Why 34?
11-11-16 marked the end of my 33rd year of life. 34 I initially thought was just an insignificant number. Until I started researching it, then 34 actually turned out to be very interesting! 34 is a fibonacci number, a pell number, a markove number and a heptagonal number. It is the atomic number of the chemical element selenium or selenium, a crystalline form that converts light into electricity. While researching, the idea arose to represent all this information condensed and encoded in a sleek image. On the print you see from outside to inside: geomtric representation of the harmonies of the different Fibonacci numbers ( 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34 etc) The dots in the 2nd ring ( from outside to inside) are the standard chemical representation of the atom selenium. The various dashes around the inner circle represent both fibonacci numbers and prime numbers, and the heptagonal character of 34 is found inside the middle circle.
Musicians usually recognise the pythagoras/fibonacci harmonies immediately :)
