In my new abstract work, intuition comes first and the creative process is central. I surrender myself to the unknown and let myself be guided by experience and emotion. A total surrender is needed for this process to flourish. It is a repetitive process in which I create, destroy, remove and paint over. There is a certainty of chaos in which each work of art arises and develops over and over again; with each creation I encounter the marks and scars of my previous actions.
There is a personal connection with these subtle changes and sensitivities. Some shimmer through and others hide; only I know fully what kind of wealth lies beneath. Although my work is inherently abstract, there is a visual order beneath it. This contrast creates an intriguing tension that brings the work to life.
I was born in New Zealand and now live in the Netherlands with my Dutch wife and 2 children.
I have been active as an artist for over 20 years. I enjoyed my education at the Art School of South Australia, Adelaide in the early 90?s.
