This is a picture taken with a long shutter speed. This causes visible movement in the hands of the musician so that the suggestion of making music is awakened. A handpan or hangdrum is a percussion instrument. The handpan resembles a steel drum but is built exactly the other way around. The sound is warmer, fuller and less shrill than a steeldrum. The sound reminds me of the sound of singing bowls. The basic shape of a handpan consists of two metal half-shells glued together, a middle pitch (called Ding) surrounded by a circle of at least seven pitches at the top and an opening at the bottom (called Gu).
