It seems like it could be anywhere. A four-lane road in the evening. speeding traffic rushing by with flashing brake lights. All under a spanning underground track that runs high above the road and enters a station further on. It could be any big city in America or China. A place that is developing rapidly. That it is not in the west is only visible from the darker left side where people walk along the road not bothered by or held back by traffic. The photo was taken on one of Mumbai's new thoroughfares where, in the dark, the modern skyscrapers of this million-dollar city stand out against the sky and below them daily life goes on as if, in many places, nothing has changed for centuries. The darkness removes the differences and extremes. What remains is an image of a modern energetic city where life rushes on in its anomic unity as in so many places in the world.
