The meadow pipit has no distinguishing features, but its call and song are characteristic. It breeds in all kinds of open landscapes, most frequently in open dunes. In the Netherlands and Belgium, the meadow pipit can be seen all year round. The nest of grass and lined with hair is built in a tussock of grass or heather, on the ground. It contains 3-5 eggs, which the female incubates alone. Both parents feed the young. The nest of this Pipit is quite often used by the Cuckoo to lay an egg in it.
