They have inhabited the area since ancient times. In his hand the typical stick that every Masai herdsman carries. The typical clothing for these Nomads are the cloths (shuka), which are knotted over their shoulders. In this park, the Masai have been granted the right to graze their cattle in the crater and live in certain areas of the area. UNESCO listed the area as a World Heritage Site in 1979.
