Abstract photo of the historic oil mill
De Bonte Hen (1693, rebuilt in 1975), type of octagonal post mill, thatched.
Markedly located on the Zaan bank north of the Zaanse Schans.
I wanted a creative photo to convey the atmosphere of the mill's eventful existence. For this I used the ICM technique (intentional camera movement) but in a way that the mill, the ferry house and also the text on the ferry house (Veerhoisie) are still recognizable and readable. Blue and white in the background represent blue skies and clouds: good and less good times.
The mill was built in 1693, rebuilt in 1975 and the foundation repaired in 2014. Extensive repairs were made to the scaffolding in early 2022.
Now is a good time: every that visitors from all over the world come to visit the Zaanse Schans.
If you have a memory with this place, but still want something creative on the wall, this photo is a good choice.
