The mandril (Mandrillus sphinx) is a monkey of the family Cercopithecidae that occurs in Central Africa. The mandrill is the world's largest monkey outside the great apesThe mandrill resembles a monkey with war colours. He has huge canines the size of a human's thumbs and usually lives in a group or harem, led by a dominant male. This male at the head is the most colorful member of his flock, which consists mainly of females. He has a characteristic blue, purple and red markings, a bright orange chin, whiskers on the side and a blue to light purple rear. Despite its ferocious appearance, the mandrill is a shy animal and much of his lifestyle and behavior remains a mystery to us. A mandrill is about 63 to 81 cm long.
