An Indonesian fairy tale that has many variants.
 
As in most Indonesian tales, the story is laden with lessons related to family values, patience in times of adversity, and that in the end good will be rewarded and evil punished.
The story, passed down orally through the centuries, is about an orphan girl, who lives with her wicked aunt. She is treated as a slave. Sad, she sits by the river, where she is addressed by a goldfish...
