About the artwork

*** Attention: Real photography - no AI! ***

This photo was taken shortly before sunset - the clouds are coloured pink.
The Elbe is at low tide so that the cathedral rock is already slightly out of the water.

The Magdeburg lift bridge is a popular photo. It is located a few hundred metres south of the cathedral rock, near Magdeburg Cathedral and the monastery of Our Lady.
The bridge was built in 1848, at that time still with nine openings, for the newly created Potsdam-Magdeburg railway line. It was rebuilt several times and has existed in its current form since 1933.

After its use as a railway bridge ended in 1998, the lift bridge was locked in its raised state in June 2001. Today it is used as a pedestrian bridge.

Magdeburg, the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, is a central German city on the River Elbe. Magdeburg's Gothic cathedral is located in the centre and is the burial church of Otto the Great, the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The Museum of Cultural History traces the importance of the city in the Middle Ages with exhibitions on archaeology and local history. The Romanesque-style monastery of Our Lady houses a contemporary art gallery and a sculpture park.
