Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.
Make sure there is enough light. In a dark room your phone has nothing to lock onto.

About ‘Maas Riverfront – The Lloyd Quarter, Rotterdam’ by Robert Jan Smit

On the opposite bank of the Maas, a distinctive part of modern Rotterdam unfolds: the Lloydkwartier, with the Müllerpier in the foreground. Whilst sleek residential towers and apartment blocks now dominate the skyline, this was once the beating heart of Rotterdam’s port activities.
The Müller Pier owes its name to the shipping company Wm. H. Müller & &, a trading firm that played a significant role in international trade flows in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This area formed a logistical link between maritime shipping and the hinterland, with warehouses, cranes and ships in constant motion day and night. Following the shift of port activities towards Europoort and the Maasvlakte, the area lost its original function and fell into disrepair. From the 1990s onwards, the area was redeveloped as part of the Lloydkwartier: a residential and commercial district where industrial history and modern architecture converge. The buildings in the photo clearly illustrate this layered character. On the left, the playful, block-shaped design stands out, with a façade reminiscent of stacked containers — a subtle reference to the area’s port heritage. On the right, warm-coloured brick towers rise up, their height and rhythm forming a new urban skyline. What makes this place special is the way in which the past has not been erased, but reinterpreted. The Maas continues to serve as a connecting element: no longer a working area, but a backdrop for living, life and viewing.
The Lloydkwartier is thus a striking example of how Rotterdam continually reinvents itself — with respect for what was, and an eye for what is to come.
