The Kiz Kulesi, Leander Tower or the Girls Tower is a tower on a small island in the Bosporus, clearly visible from various neighborhoods in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
According to legend, the tower would have been built by an Ottoman sultan who had his daughter imprisoned. It was predicted that the daughter would die on her 18th birthday, and the sultan thought she would be safe in the tower. Yet the princess died as predicted on her 18th birthday, due to a snake bite. The snake had hidden in a basket of fruit that the sultan had his daughter bring on her birthday.
The mosque in the background is the Süleymaniye mosque in the old city of Istanbul.
