About the artwork
The picture shows an imposing, abandoned building with massive brick walls and windows that are barred and closed. The façade is divided into two colours: one part is made of red brick, while the other shines in light beige. These colour contrasts give the building a special aesthetic and are reminiscent of a time when these walls were still inhabited and in use. But the undisturbed vegetation in the foreground tells a different story - the story of a place that is being reclaimed by nature.
Wild flowers and grasses grow unhindered and have a firm grip on the terrain. The vibrant colours of the plants, especially the bright red flowers in the foreground, form a lively contrast to the austere, quiet architecture of the building. The building looks like a silent witness to past decades when nature was kept outside. But today it is spreading out and reclaiming every last bit of ground.
