The grévyzebra (Equus grevyi) is an endangered zebra species from the drier regions of Kenya and Ethiopia. The grévyzebra is the so-called Hippotigris ("tiger horse"), the zebra species that appeared in Roman circuses in the third century. He was named after the French president Jules Grévy, who in 1882 received a grévyzebra from Menelik I, the negus ("emperor") of Abyssinia. The grévyzebra is the only surviving species of the subgenus Dolichohippus. Related species used to be found all over Africa and Eurasia: fossils have been found as far away as China.
Grant's zebra ( Equus quagga boehmi ) is the smallest of the seven subspecies of the plains zebra . This subspecies represents the zebra shape of the ecosystem Serengeti - Mara .
