The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) is a bird belonging to the family woodpeckers (Picidae). It is a numerous and widespread resident bird in a large part of the Palearctic region. Here he nests in forests and all kinds of cultural landscapes. The great spotted woodpecker seeks its food in almost all layers of vegetation. In summer it feeds mainly on insects and other invertebrates, in winter it feeds mainly on plant food, such as seeds of conifers.
