Painting is simplifying, as a painter you choose what to show and what not to show. Sometimes I see how far I can go with this simplification without losing the recognisability. For example, by depicting only part of the subject.
This frog is painted with oil paint on canvas board. It is made up of small blocks. The green and red enhance each other, the moist skin and the eye shine in the light. He looks around, his eyeballs spinning in the sockets in search of prey.
Connection is the overarching theme in my works. In my paintings, I try to capture the moment of my encounter with an animal, a bird and sometimes a human. Those few seconds of contact, sometimes shock, but also surprise or curiosity.
