Painting is simplifying, as a painter you choose what to show and what not to show. Sometimes I see how far I can go with this simplification without losing the recognisability. This little goat looks curiously around the corner. He looks straight at you with his golden eyes.
The blue of the background resonates in the shadows in the goat's fur.
In Sweden, I visited a beautifully situated fäbod. The animals roamed freely, cow bells announcing the arrival of a few dairy cows. There was a fenced-off area where you could drink tea. We sat behind the fences while the farm animals led what appeared to be a happy life. so it can be done!
Connection is the overarching theme in my works. In my paintings, I try to capture the moment of my encounter with a bird or another animal. Those few seconds of contact, sometimes shock, but also surprise or curiosity. The beauty of everything that lives, and the connection I feel with everything around me I try to capture on my paper or canvas
About Annette Noordhof
