About "Fried egg"

About the artwork

The large-format painting "Mirror Egg" presents a fascinating and symbol-laden scene that appears surreal at first glance, but on closer inspection addresses deep social and psychological themes.

In the centre of the painting is a barber's chair in which a customer sits looking at his hairstyle in the mirror. But here convention is broken, as the mirror itself is an eggshell on which someone is reflected. This bizarre and unusual situation initially steers the viewer of the picture away from the norm.

The environment of the hairdresser's client is a desolate wasteland, emphasising the insignificance of the surroundings. The focus is clearly on the self-observation and self-obsession of the customer, who is only concerned with his own reflection.

The emphasis on this narcissistic behaviour underlines the idea that the narcissist often sees only himself and does not notice or appreciate the world around him. This has a deeper social and psychological meaning as it points to the egocentricity and self-centredness in society.

Overall, "Mirror Egg" is a remarkable painting that seems surreal and intriguing at first glance, but on closer inspection raises important questions about human nature, society and self-reflection. It challenges the viewer to reflect on their own behaviour and perception of the world around them, and to explore the meaning of narcissism in our modern world.
