Poseidon greets passing ships in Duisburg harbor
On May 27, 2016, Markus Lüpertz's spectacular statue was unveiled on Mercator Island in Duisburg Harbor. The bronze statue, which is 6 meters high, 4.20 meters wide and weighs eleven tons, is entitled "Echo of Poseidon" and features a bust of the Greek god of the sea. It stands on a peninsula at the entrance to Duisburg's inland port.
Around the Poseidon statue there is a small park. From there, you can relax and watch the shipping traffic. A staircase leads down from the Friedrich Ebert Bridge.
From the Poseidon, the view falls on the sculpture Rhine Orange, at the mouth of the Ruhr into the Rhine. The popular harbor promenade, the Mühlenweide and the inland waterway museum in Ruhrort are also in the immediate vicinity.
