Kinderdijk, UNESCO World Heritage site and famous for it's 19 windmills. All built around 1740 AD these mills were used to regulate the waterlevels in the surrounding area. With this area, as well as a big part of the rest of Holland, being below seawater level, these mills together with a network of dykes were essential to keep Holland dry.
