The house of the castaways at Terschelling during sunset. The Wadden islands and especially this corner of the island of Terschelling were notorious in earlier days because of the many shipwrecks. In order to give castaways a safe shelter to escape to and wait for rescue, these little houses were built. The round basket could be hoisted in the top of the mast by the sheltering castawayto attract the attention of the inhabited world.
