Dionysus Dance is another oil painting from my Fire series. Same as other pieces from this series, this one is also inspired by tropical wildfires.
The painting shows a road in the forest that is blazing pink from a fire raging and swallowing the trees. The overall tone of the painting is a warm pink, with gray trees and yellowish fire. It is rich in details, of ground, tree branches, and smoke.
The painting is purposefully not dark, gloomy, or apocalyptic. I wanted it to be bright and playful, which is why it is titled Dionysus Dance - as the Greek god of wine and celebrations. It is a metaphor for the carefree ways in which we live, not regarding the damage we are causing to the planet, other living beings, and plants. The painting is poetic and light even though it tells a grim story.
In terms of technique, it is oil on canvas sized 80x100cm. It was painted in many translucent layers of oil paint.
