Delft Blue Rabbit

by Christian Ovís

A seated rabbit with long, upright ears is the subject of Delft Blue Rabbit. The head faces left and has a dark eye and a small, clearly defined muzzle. Blue flowers, leaves and tendrils cover the white body. The ears remain largely light in colour, making them stand out clearly against the black background. At the bottom, the short front legs and the broad hind leg are visible.

The rounded body features a dense pattern of large and small flowers. Near the head, the decoration becomes finer, ensuring that the eye and nose remain recognisable. The light falls mainly on the ears, the forehead and the top of the back. Soft, dark shadows lie beneath the belly and between the legs. A small reflection on the surface enhances the serene presentation. The smooth curves and rich decoration give the animal a porcelain-like appearance.

This animal wall art complements an interior featuring blue-and-white accessories, floral motifs or soft animal figures. In a reading nook, living room or children’s bedroom, the rabbit can serve as a friendly focal point. A plain wall really brings out the contours and the blue decoration. Up close, the delicate twigs and leaves catch the eye; from a distance, it is the recognisable silhouette of the rabbit that stands out.
