The Damrak is a short but wide street leading from Amsterdam Central Station to Dam Square. It is a major thoroughfare and one of the first things many visitors see when they arrive in Amsterdam via the train station.
Along the Damrak you will find several notable buildings and sights, including the Beurs van Berlage, a historic building that originally served as a stock exchange. Like many other streets in Amsterdam, the Damrak is surrounded by characteristic canal houses. These houses with their narrow gables are a distinctive part of Amsterdam's architecture.
The Damrak leads to the famous Dam Square, where you can find the Royal Palace Amsterdam and the New Church. It is an important starting point for exploring the historic heart of Amsterdam.
