Crow's nest is the term used for a platform in the mast of a ship.
Its real name is mars. It only got the name crow's nest on the first fully mechanical warships, where the open combat bridge had a place under the smokestack, and officers started wearing black uniforms because of soot emissions. In both old and new sailing ships with a platform in the mast, the term march is no longer used, as crow's nest has become commonplace all over the world. Only when describing historical types is the old term used.
