The collarpekari (Pecari tajacu) is the smallest species of pecker. The scientific name of the species was published as Sus tajacu by Carl Linnaeus in 1758.
The coat is dark grey with a fuzzy, whitish collar. The young are reddish with a narrow, black back stripe. The body length is 75 to 100 cm, the tail length 1.5 to 5.5 cm and the weight 14 to 30 kg.
