Cesis is a provincial town in Latvia. a town where in the centre time seems to have stood still. Where traitional wooden houses stand next to old stone houses with plastered walls or houses made of brick. Where the ups and downs of history are hidden behind the walls but sometimes palpable. The calm of a summer afternoon on a semi-cloudy day gives the dramatic cloudy sky with its variation of light and dark an echo in the shadows of the houses on the road and the light and dark side of the façade walls. The strong contrasts in light and shadow are involuntarily reminiscent of the paintings of American painter Hopper or Dutch artist Willink. A quiet street that makes you wonder what might happen next or what has happened.
