About the artwork

Blue Angels #6 and 7 in action during airshow.

Normally, this manoeuvre is performed by Blue Angels #5 and 6. However, this picture shows Blue Angels #6 and 7 performing the manoeuvre.

Manoeuvre: Fortus.
Blue Angel #5 and 6 fly from right to left over the display line. The display line is usually parallel to the runway. Both aircraft have the landing gear and catch hook folded out. Blue Angel #5 turns at the edge of the show area and flies into the show area upside down and at an altitude of at least 200 feet. Blue Angel #6 continues to fly unchanged, creating a mirror-image effect. At the end of this manoeuvre, Blue Angel #5 turns back to normal straight-line flying. This manoeuvre is called Fortus.

The Blue Angels (also known as Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron) is the flight demonstration team of the United States Navy. Established at the end of World War II, the team was 'the world's first official flight demonstration team. In the early years, the team flew three aircraft, then four, and for many years the team has consisted of six aircraft.

This picture was taken on 25 October 2024 during the
Wings over Houston airshow at Ellington Airport.
