About ‘Between dust and grass - Uganda's gentle giants’ by Rick Massar

In Uganda's remote northeast lies Kidepo Valley National Park, one of Africa's last untouched wildernesses. Here, African elephants move freely across the open savannahs, among acacias, rock formations and dusty plains. Their massive bodies cast long shadows in the warm light, while calves playfully shelter between their mothers' legs.

Elephants are at the heart of Kidepo's ecosystem. They trek long distances every day in search of water and food and contribute to keeping the landscape open. Their presence is a symbol of strength, intelligence and family bonding - traits that resonate deeply with the spirit of Africa.

This photo collection captures the elephant's grandeur and tranquillity: from intimate moments within the herd to expansive scenes where they merge into the landscape. It is a tribute to the majestic giants of Kidepo - a place where nature is still pristine, pure and timeless.
