These lakes on Duurswouderheide are a relic of the last ice age. Melting ice has created a kind of crater lakes that have an almost otherworldly appearance. With their steep walls and calm water, they form a beautiful contrasting reflection of the light blue sky against the golden reeds and overgrowth of the heath in winter.
