Ayrton Senna da Silva (21 March 1960 - 1 May 1994) was a highly successful Brazilian driver who left deep marks in motorsport. He started a total of 161 races, of which he started from pole position no less than 65 times and crossed the finish line victorious 41 times.
My admiration for Senna began at a young age, when I heard stories of his extraordinary talent and perseverance. Racing on the other side of the world, being independent and wholeheartedly fixated on just one goal, Formula 1. That is why Ayrton Senna is my hero.
His racing career began at a remarkably young age of just four, when he was already driving around in a go-kart. After his impressive performances in Formula Ford 1600 and 2000, he dragged in the 1983 British F3 championship, where he beat the talented Martin Brundle, among others.
The tragic end to his life came at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, after a fatal crash. His death shocked the entire Formula 1 world and led to a series of important safety measures that still leave their mark on the sport today. Ayrton Senna remains a legend and an inspiration to many racing fans, including myself.
