While visiting the pyramids of Guïmar, I captured this image of Atlas carrying the world. The sculpture stood in the gardens surrounding the pyramids. The threatening clouds fit the underlying theme and the heaviness of carrying something bigger than yourself.
I like the contrast of the grey-blue and red of the world, with the weather especially taking hold of the globe. You can see the rust seeping down and trying to get a grip on the rest of the statue.
It is extraordinary to see how some works of art get better with the weather. As far as I'm concerned, this Atlas is one of them. The gardens give you great views of Tenerife and it is a nice escape from the daily rhythm and hustle and bustle of everyday life.
