An old wooden barn with stained-glass windows, painted green by Fotografiecor .nl

This close-up focuses on the texture and interplay of lines in an authentic Dutch working barn. The depth of field has been deliberately kept shallow, so that the focus is entirely on the contrast between the rough, black-tarred wood and the refined, characteristically green-painted stained-glass windows. The natural raking light emphasises the artisanal details and the historical layers of the window frames.

As a photographer in the Kampen and IJsseldelta region, I am always on the lookout for these hidden monuments. This image captures the essence of our agricultural past; a tangible reminder of a time when farm buildings were not only functional, but were also crafted with an eye for detail and craftsmanship. It is a tribute to the agricultural heritage that makes our landscape so unique.

This artwork looks superb in an interior with a classic, rustic or ‘modern farmhouse’ style, where the black wood and green accent create a rugged, warm atmosphere. For the best results, I recommend a brushed aluminium or matt veneer finish to bring out the texture of the wood.

Bring a piece of tangible history into your home and give your interior an authentic, characterful touch.
