About the artwork

The black-and-white photograph shows an abandoned urbex building, an old laboratory where the ravages of time have clearly struck. The building exudes a mysterious, melancholic character, with the paint peeling off in flakes on the doors of the lab. The dilapidated state of the building seems to bear witness to an era that never really passed, as if the clock has stopped here. The walls bear the marks of neglect, with cracks and stains telling the story of years of vacancy.

Nature has unmistakably found its way through the building's cracks and openings. Moss and ivy grow out of the walls, as if nature is trying to win its own rightful place in what was once a place of science and progress. The contrast between decay and the inescapable force of nature creates a sense of transience and immutability at the same time.

The photograph captures this moment in time, merging the tranquillity of the past and the inexorable progress of nature.
