On the Koblat High Trail, where the sky stretches far above the peaks of the Allgäu Alps, this mountain cross stands like a silent sentinel above the landscape. Its weathered wood tells of storms and sunrises, of all the hikers who have paused here to feel the breath of the mountains. The Laufbichelsee lies hidden in a hollow just a few steps away, glistening like a forgotten jewel between the green flanks of the Allgäu.
When the sun breaks over the edge of the cross, as in this photo, it seems to stop time for a heartbeat. A fine crown of rays shines out, as if the day itself wants to show its awe. The wind carries the stories of the mountains over - quiet, powerful, never quite tangible. In the distance, the jagged silhouettes of the peaks emerge, sharp as if painted and yet as vivid as if they were breathing.
Up here, the world is both far away and close at the same time. Every step, every pause, every moment of wonder becomes a moment that lasts. The cross reminds us that we are only guests in this magnificent, ancient landscape - and that this is precisely where a deep, wonderful freedom lies.
