I created this painting using digital techniques, based on a photograph I took myself on the Kalmthoutse Heide, a unique nature reserve on the Belgian-Dutch border. The Kalmthoutse Heide is known for its vast heathland landscapes, open plains, sand dunes and characteristic pines as seen in this work.
Using digital brushstrokes, I tried to render the warm light, the shaggy grasses and the characterful tree as true to nature and atmospheric as possible. The painting captures the peace, vastness and silence so typical of this beautiful piece of nature.
